New Hampshire Physician Leadership Development Program Welcomes Next Cohort

Program Welcomes 21 Aspiring Physician Leaders from across NH

Concord, NH – The New Hampshire Medical Society and the New Hampshire Hospital Association are pleased to welcome the next round of physician leaders into the 2021-2023 cohort of the New Hampshire Physician Leadership Development Program.

The New Hampshire Physician Leadership Development Program is designed to cultivate effective physician leadership within the Granite State from the bedside to the board room by teaching management, communication, and leadership skills, furthering effective communication between the medical staff and administration, and empowering physicians to foster change among their colleagues.   Launched in 2018 by the New Hampshire Medical Society and the New Hampshire Hospital Association in partnership with the University of New Hampshire’s Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics and College of Health and Human Services through a grant from The Physicians Foundation, the Physician Leadership Development Program has supported more than 50 aspiring physicians from across the state.

Those physicians accepted into the 2021-2023 cohort are Annika Brown, MD of Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital; Javier Cardenas, MD, Androscoggin Valley Hospital; Christopher Allen, MD, Brian Marks, MD and Patrick Stevens, MD, Concord Hospital; Jose Mercado, MD, and Jennifer Stableford, MD, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center; Jennifer Duprey, MD, Elliot Health System; Kavitha Kittu, MD, Riverbend Community Mental Health Center; Lorenzo Klein, MD, Southern New Hampshire Health System; Robert Sprague, MD, Southern New Hampshire Radiology Consultants; Deepak Vatti, MD, Shanta Mahmudi, MD, Sazia Nowrin, MD, and Alison Madden, MD, St. Joseph Hospital; Edward Laverty, PA-C, Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital; Gary Usher, MD,  Wentworth Health Partners Coastal Neurology; and Robert Jarrett, MD, Michael Mazzini, MD, and Jerome Schlachter, MD, Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

“This Physician Leadership Development Program offers aspiring physician leaders the opportunity to not only learn and grow as leaders, but to shape the future of healthcare by serving as change agents within their own organizations as well,” said Steve Ahnen, New Hampshire Hospital Association President.

Developing and engaging physicians in leadership roles and decisions ultimately serves the strategic goals of New Hampshire’s health care system and improves the relationship and helps to build a solid foundation that will encourage alignment among physicians, hospitals and other key stakeholders as larger-scale transformational issues are addressed.

“Creating a program that’s designed to provide the tools and resources to physicians across the state so that they can achieve a higher level of effectiveness and success as hospital and health system leaders has been a priority of the Medical Society, and we’re excited to be able to offer such a program here in the Granite State,” said James Potter, Executive Vice President of the New Hampshire Medical Society.
