Androscoggin Valley Hospital held a special place in Mariam Gaynor’s heart. When she passed away in 1984, she bequeathed part of her estate to the Hospital, a gift valued at more than a million dollars. Education was an important part of her life, evidenced by her attending Mt. Saint Mary Seminary in Hooksett and earning a Bachelor of Science Degree from Boston University and a Master of Arts Degree from Columbia University. She continued to pursue advanced studies at Harvard University, San Jose State University, and Stanford University. Because of her enthusiasm for education, the Hospital Board of Directors decided that income earned on her bequest would be used to fund education in selected health care careers. The Board felt that the scholarship program would be an appropriate way to honor Miss Gaynor and assure the availability of selected health care professionals at AVH and in the community. Androscoggin Valley Hospital was pleased to announce four $3,000 scholarships this year to the following graduating seniors:
Abigail Blais (Berlin High School)
Olivia O’Neill (Gorham High School)
Mya Platt (Gorham High School)
Aubrie Woodward (Berlin High School)
