The Clinical Ladder is a professional development tool, for RNs, which encourages advancement of the bedside nurse and rewards nurses for participation in three domains: leadership, education/professional growth, and clinical performance. The goals of the program are to encourage career advancement and retention, increase competency, improve quality care and positively impact work satisfaction.
There are three levels with corresponding criteria for the Clinical Nurse Program:
Clinical Nurse – Level 1:
- One year RN experience
- One year employment at NCH
- Set goals to achieve advancement in the clinical ladder
Clinical Nurse – Level 2:
- Two years RN experience
- One year employment at NCH
- Ten points each from leadership, education/professional growth, and clinical experience
- 30 points total
Clinical Nurse – Level 3:
- Four years RN experience
- One year employment at NCH
- 20 points each from leadership, education/professional growth, and clinical experience
- 60 points total
The Clinical Ladder is a System-wide program administered through the education department.
