30th Annual AVH Auxiliary Golf Tournament Raises $46,544 to Help Purchase Two New EKG Units!

On Friday, June 1, 2018, the AVH Auxiliary held its 30th Annual Golf Tournament at the Androscoggin Valley Country Club in Gorham.  One hundred and thirty-six golfers teed off in the four-person, best ball, rain or shine scramble.  This year, the Golf Tournament Committee chose to raise funds to help purchase two new Mortara ELI 380-DCX11 EKG Units for Androscoggin Valley Hospital.

In addition to an 18-hole round of golf, each golfer received a goodie bag, AVH logo wireless speaker, BBQ with a special 30th anniversary cake, photo of their foursome, and participation in the Putting, Longest Drive, and Closest to the Pin Contests.  Optional contests were Team Skins and Double Your Money (Vegas Hole).

The winning foursome was  Gus Doughty, Marty Laberge, Gary Lapierre, and Dan Williams with a net score of 54.05.  Second place was Michael Boyson, Rick King, Lise King, and Gary Roy with a net score of 55.59.  Third place was Tyle Martin, Devin Kelley, Cassie Martin, and Tommy Bisson with a net score of 56.00.

Other winners in the Tournament were Rollie Poirier for men’s closest to the pin on hole #3, and Roberta Remillard for women’s closest to the pin on hole #15.  Gary Lapierre won longest drive for men on hole #1, and Rachel Leveille won longest drive for women on hole #11.  All received a gift certificate to the Androscoggin Valley Country Club Pro Shop.  The Putting Contest final qualifier was Bobby Hill who missed the 60-foot putt by a slightly-too fast putt with the ball hitting the hole and skipping over it!  So close!  Bobby won a Sony Portable Wireless Speaker generously donated by PC Connection for being the Putting Contest final qualifier.

Our sponsorships were by team, player, or donation.  Double Eagle Sponsors ($2,500 or more) were the AVH Foundation, AVH Medical Staff, and Dr. & Mrs. Richard Kardell.  Eagle Sponsors ($1,000 to $2,499) were A.R. Couture Construction Corporation; Berry, Dunn, McNeil & Parker, LLC; CGI Employee Benefits Group; Catholic Medical Center; Gallagher Insurance | Risk Management | Consuling; Griffin Security Technologies, LLC; Langford & Low, Inc.; Northway Bank; Rath, Young, & Pignatelli, P.C.; Service Credit Union; and The Downeast Group at Morgan Stanley.  The Tournament also had many other sponsors including Team sponsors ($700), Birdie ($700 to $999), Par ($175 to $699), Player ($175), and Donations (up to $174).  Without all of the sponsors, the Tournament could not have been such a huge success!

To help raise additional funds, a raffle was held.  First place prize, four tickets to the Boston Red Sox vs. Toronto Blue Jays game, was won by Ed Duffy.  The tickets were generously donated by Gilcoine & Burke Insurance Agency, Inc.  Second place prize, four tickets to the Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles game, was won by Dan Henderson.  The tickets were generously donated by Helms & Company, Inc.  Third place prize, two tickets to a 2018/19 Season Boston Bruins Game was won by Denis Delisle.  Fourth place prize, two tickets to a 2018/19 Season Boston Celtics Game was won by Donna Horne.  Both sets of tickets were generously donated by Leaders For Today.  Fifth place prize, a Beautyrest Queen Mattress and Box Spring Set, was won by Rachel Delisle.  The set was generously donated by Top Furniture.  The lucky winner of the 50/50 Raffle was Kathy Valliere who won $442!

Berlin City Auto Group generously sponsored the Hole-in-One Contest which included top prize of a two-year lease on a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu.  No golfer got a hole-in-one.  The AutoNorth Pre-Owned Superstore generously sponsored a $100,000 Closest-to-the-Pin Contest.  The four golfers getting closest-to-the-pin on hole #13 received a chance to make a 165’ putt after the Tournament on hole #18.  Nice try Gary Demers, Jim Flynn, Trent Labrecque, and David Wood!  Maybe next year!

The Golf Tournament Committee was delighted to dedicate this year’s Tournament to Annemarie Platt, a long-time member of the AVH Auxiliary, Director of the Auxiliary Board, and originator of the Teddy Bear Program, known as the beloved “Teddy Bear” lady.  Annemarie was presented with a special plaque, flowers, and her very own teddy bear with AVH logo patch.  Thank you Annemarie for starting the program, for your time and commitment, and for putting many smiles on the faces of AVH patients.  Annemarie represents the true meaning of service and volunteerism.
